  • Aaron Baddely''s Caddie Pete Bender Battling Cancer...

    From The Herald Sun

AARON Baddeley was close to tears after shooting 73 to miss the cut at the US Masters as he spoke of regular caddie Pete Bender''s fight against cancer.

As Baddeley battled the treacherous Augusta National course, legendary bagman Bender was in California where he has started a seven-week course of radiation and chemotherapy.

The 59-year old was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils less than a month ago and the disease is believed to have spread to his lymph nodes.

"Pete is like an uncle to me . . . he''s got a great heart," Baddeley said.

"I can''t believe what he''s going through. Everybody out here at the Masters has been asking about him."

  • Accenture Match Play: Tiger Woods Stays Perfect; Holds Off Aaron Baddeley...

    From ESPN.com

    By Bob Harig

MARANA, Ariz. -- Before the ball even dropped into the cup, before the ending became official, Tiger Woods walked toward hole, took off his cap and headed toward Aaron Baddeley to shake his hand.

It was the only time through 20 holes of an intense match at the Gallery Golf Club that Woods was sure of victory. "It was a little early, wasn''t it?'''' a sheepish Woods said afterward, having been reminded of his show of confidence.

  • Accenture Match Play: Aaron Baddeley to Have ''Fun'' Playing Tiger Woods...

    From The Australian

    Brent Read | February 23, 2008

AARON BADDELEY enjoys being paired with Tiger Woods, which is somewhat surprising given what happened last time they stalked the fairways in the same group.

That was at the US Open midway through last year. Baddeley started the final day at Oakmont Country Club with a two-shot lead and genuine hopes of securing his first major, and finished it with his game in ruins.

The Victorian closed with an ugly 80, tumbling down the leaderboard in startling fashion. It was painful to watch.

  • Aaron Baddeley Looking for 3rd Australian Open Title

From The AP and Golf Channel

SYDNEY, Australia -- Aaron Baddeley will be the favorite Thursday when he attempts to win his third Australian Open golf title and further his goal of surpassing Gary Player''s record of seven Open victories.

"This is definitely an event I focus on because I''ve made it known that I want to beat Gary Player''s record of seven, so I''ve got to get eight Australian Opens," Baddeley said.

"I really focus on this one because it''s our national championship, which is always special, but then it would be nice to get a few Australian Opens early so then it gives me a little easier (task) for the next 20 years."

  • Aaron Baddeley Never Stopped Believing...

    from Bren O''Brien, Sportal
A delighted Aaron Baddeley said he never lost the belief he could win his first MasterCard Masters on a tense final day at Huntingdale which culminated in the Victorian defeating Daniel Chopra in a playoff.

Baddeley was two shots off the lead with two holes remaining but never gave up hope he could reel in Chopra down the difficult final stretch on the famous course.

"I knew I had to get one birdie coming in to have a chance. I hit every shot great on 17, and every shot great late on 18," he said.

Chopra would bogey the 17th after Baddeley birdied it, sending them into a playoff. It took four holes to separate them, with Baddeley parring the 18th the fifth time he had played it for the day, while Chopra bogeyed. However, just a few minutes earlier, the Australian looked to have faltered, hitting the ball into the trees with his tee shot.

  • Aaron Baddeley Wins Australian Masters in Playoff...

    From The AP

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Australia''s Aaron Baddeley outlasted Sweden''s Daniel Chopra to win the Australian Masters on Sunday, saving par on the fourth hole of a playoff after hitting his tee shot into the trees.

Baddeley chipped to 8 feet on the fourth extra hole -- the 18th -- and made the putt. Chopra, who made several clutch putts in regulation and in the playoff, dragged his par putt wide from a slightly shorter distance, giving the Australian the win.

"I felt pretty good about that chip. I knew exactly where it would break," Baddeley said. He added that his putt for par "would have gone into a thimble."

  • Aaron Baddeley Reflects on a Good and Bad 2007

    From Fox Sports

November 18, 2007 AARON Baddeley knows everyone wants to talk about the US Open. He''s had a dream year in which he finished sixth in the inaugural FedEx Cup play-offs, 10th on the US money list and 18th in the world rankings, yet still we won''t forget about that Oakmont disaster.

Paired with Tiger Woods, Baddeley led into the final round of the US Open but triple-bogeyed the first hole on his way to an 80.

Commentators wondered if he would recover, and fans quietly uttered the dreaded "choke" word.

But for Baddeley, who is back in Australia to play in the Mastercard Masters this week and the Australian Open next month, the fall-out has been very different. Granted, he didn''t play his A-game during the final round at Oakmont. But neither did Tiger Woods as Angel Cabrera took the title.

For the dual Australian Open winner, there are no demons.

In September, he battled Woods all the way down the back nine at the BMW Championship and came up just short as he went on to confirm his reputation as the most improved player in the world.

Baddeley says he is using the US Open as a building block, not for purposes of revenge but as confirmation he has what it takes to play against the elite.
